Hello Everyone!

I have always been told that …..“when one door closes another door opens”…. or how about….”that which doesn’t kill us makes us stronger”…..As painful as it may be I have to say I truly believe both of these statements and they have been weighing heavy on my mind over these last few months as I have found myself faced with several challenges that have literally shook me to my core and left me simply asking “why?”.

So I find myself at the proverbial crossroads of life knowing that I can’t change anything in the past but what I can do is put my big girl panties on and move forward.

At this point I’m sure you’re asking “what does all this mean to you?”.

First let me start by assuring you that I am working diligently to mail everyone’s October kit out within the next week. This kit promises to be overflowing paper, embellishments and all things scrappy. This overstuffed kit is my way of thanking all of you for your loyalty and friendship over the years but it will be the last kit from Kit n’ Kaboodles.

The Kit n’ Kaboodles site(www.knkclub.com) and it’s message board will close on October 15^th so if there are any images you would like to save from either site please do it before then.

Okay…so that was the proverbial door that closed……now for the newly open door.

I am thrilled to announce that I will be launching a new site in the next few months that will be my therapeutic happy place! This new site will offer a variety of two page layout kits, card kits, project kits for mini-albums and home décor for everyone from the novice scrapper to the more advanced scrapper. It will feature products from my favorite designers and manufacturers like Tim Holtz and Claudine Hellmuth from Ranger, Prima, Petaloo, Canvas Corp, Quick Qutoes, Heartfelt Creations, Graphic 45, Bo Bunny and so much more! I am so excited about this new site as it will allow me to do what I love….and that’s to just simply create!

I would like to thank all of you for your business but more importantly I would like to thank you for your friendship and I hope that you will keep in touch. I will be emailing each of you when my new site is up and running and I do hope you pop in to browse and say hi!

I appreciate all of you reading through my long winded email as it was certainly an emotional one to write but let me recap some important dates.

September 25^th: This was the last time current members were charged. There will be no future charges.

October 11^th: All kits will be shipped out to current members.

October 15^th: Kit n’ Kaboodles site and message board (www.knkclub.com) will close.

TBD: I will be emailing all of you when my new site is up and running.

More fun with Graphic 45

Here is another card that I made with the Steampunk Debutante paper pack from Graphic 45. At first glance, some of the images on the papers might make you do a double take, they are really quite striking. The colors are amazing. These designs and images bring us back in history to a very different time and place.
The Steampunk Debutante line is totally different than anything that Graphic 45 has done in the past. Most of the Graphic 45 line is traditional, vintage utilizing beautiful imagery from our past. To see more of their papers, please stop by the KNK store.

Noteworthy Note-holder

I am often caught short of little thank~you or thinking~of~you gifts or trinkets, so I figured that now is a good time to work on making some to have on hand. The holidays will soon be here, and we can always use ideas for little stocking stuffers and gifts for those people who make our lives a little better but we can't afford to buy gifts for. So, here's a little post-it note holder that you can make with a few pieces of coordinating patterned paper, a coaster (or 4x4 piece of cardboard even), a post-it note, a little piece of ribbon, and a pen or pencil!

Cut 2 pieces of patterned paper into 4x4 squares and cover your coaster with them. Trim and distress the edges, use distress ink to make it look nice if you desire :)

Use scalloped punches, nestabilities, or SLICE to cut nested circles to decorate front of post-it in colors complementing the patterned paper on the coaster. Also decorate a library clip with a scrap of patterned paper.

You can also use a piece of ribbon wrapped around the coaster to attach a pen or pencil. I glued down the post-it note pad for extra security, so it would not fall off.
Here is one of my finished note holders, front and back.

This post-it holder is made with the Graphic 45 paper line called Steampunk Debutante. On the back, I used one of Tim Holtz's fragments to create a point of interest for the old man to look at. This paper line from Graphic 45 is a little weird, but you can have lots of fun being creative with it! Hope you have fun too :)

I was looking for a fun simple spunky card for her so I used some chipboard numbers as a mask and used my glimmer mist to create the background. I then used the glimmer mist on my ribbon (it was originally white and black) and on the flower. I used the overspray to ink the edges of my tags:D Hope you have a great day!

New Graphic 45 is "Steamy"

I was given this funky new Graphic 45 STEAMPUNK DEBUTANTE paperpad to play with and I have to say that it is pretty weird. It is retro like the other graphic 45 paper, but with more of a unique edge. When I saw it, it reminded me of the "oddness" of the industrial revolution. There are gears and gizmos and gadgets, and of course pretty girls! For those of us who are Tim Holtz fans, I can easily see blending his metal pieces and stamps with these beautiful papers. Look a bit closer, don't just take a fast glance and turn away. I think that Graphic 45 took a giant leap of faith with their fans and this avante~garde line of products. I had fun making this card with their paper and some bazzill cardstock. All I added was some black cardstock and antiqued brads.

wow I can't believe the fun I have been having with the September kit! and I still have paper to spare!!! I made this all purpose card. The Kraft paper collection is so versatile! And you can add any color with it and it seems to create this instant "pop" . Here i paired it with some white core purple card stock. I did add some marshmallow glimmer mist to the flower for some sparkle. Have you tried these flowers yet? you really need to!! I am addicted!!

Well a few weeks ago I bought a sewing machine off Craigslist just to use for my papercrafting...this thing has all kinds of features...many of which I am sure I will never use, but it does a good number of decorative stitches... So..I took the plunge and stitched on my card for this week...TWICE!!!!

I first stamped the fluffles image onto white cardstock and colored it in with Prismacolor pencils. I then stitched this cardstock to the kraft cardstock. I then decided to stitch around my card base to secure that green paper strip down. I mounted my stamped image and kraft onto the orange pattern paper and then the entire thing to my card front.

Sew....how crafty are you going to get this week???

Fall Welcome Sign

I made this Fall Welcome sign (well i suppose it would work for any season but the flowers seemed fallish to me.) using the September Kit from KnK! There are only a few more days to get yours, so if you haven't got it yet what are you waiting for?

I made the rust and orange flowers using the technique I found here. For the rust flower I used a solid core card stock while for the orange one I used a white cored card stock. As you can see below it provides a slightly different look. I also used two different types of flowers from the GEORGE cartridge for my Cricut. These flowers are very addicting so I would expect to see a few more from me. :D oh and the yellow flower was made by layering some Prima flowers I had leftover from the June Kit. Please share you flowers with us :D

Fall Photo Challenge

It's been a while since we had a photo challenge, let's do something fun with our cameras! The weather has started to cool off a little for most of us, making it a bit more bearable to be outside, and with autumn on the horizon there should be some great photo-ops on the way. Vacation layouts!

The September kit is absolutely PERFECT for the vacation photos that I recently took in South Dakota. For this first layout of Evan (and his horse Spud), I used the blue Smooch spray and sprayed the background paper. Since the pictures were busy, I tried to stay as simple as possible, just adding a title and a few of the die cuts from the Paperie embellishments.

My second layout is candid shots of Kendall, and again, the goal here was to stay simple and focus on the pictures. I again sprayed an accent strip, added some diecuts, flowers and accented the clock face die cut to signify the meaning of the layout.

I hope you all enjoy this kit as much as I did!

Altered Canvas Bag

In a previous post, Amy mentioned the little canvas bag that you will find in the September kit. I altered my bag to use as a holder for a mini album, or a gift card for a friend, or even a cute little door hanger.

I spritzed it with some Starfish and Candlelight glimmer mists. Once that was dry, I used a Pink Paislee press on. I was a bit hesitant to try to use a rub on on the canvas, but the package said that these transfer on almost any surface, and they were right! It went on like butter! I stamped the quote with Versamark ink. I used a clear glue to attach the lace on the top part of the bag and the ribbon on the handle. I made the paper rose with the Crafty Chronicle in the kit and used Starfish glimmer mist on it. Then I popped on some bling and a Jenni Bowlin butterfly, and it was done!

I've Been Working on My New Scrap Room

Ben is off at school, and is so excited and happy. However, things have taken an unexpected turn of events in other areas of my life. Before I can get working on projects and cards, I needed to get my new scrap~space in order. Thankfully, I have had time on my hands, and Peter to help me move around the items that are too heavy for me to lift. I still have a ways to go, but I thought that I would share with you some photos of my new scrappy space.

This iris cart is filled with punches (yes~~I have a lot, but I am thrifty and buy them on sale and clearance)

This is the closet. I have been able to put lots of stamps on the left side, on the right side, in those 12X12 iris boxes are my scrapbook papers and Theme boxes. There are also some assorted scrapbook supplies housed here

Here is where I set up my Cricut (hopefully I will use it more) and my Slice.

The guys rolled ribbon onto clothespins to help me try a new way to organize my huge ribbon supply ;)

I loved the September Kit. This kit offered so many options! For this card I used the cover sheet that came with the papers. I cut apart the squares on the front. I added glossy accents to the stamped butterfly. For the next layout I wanted to use the papers as is again and add a splash of color.
I loved how it really made the color pop on this picture! and I love the little banners!

I Confess

I just couldn't decide what to do with the cute little canvas tote that comes in the September kit. I saved it 'til last, thinking that something would occur to me, that the lightbulb would come on, but it just never really did. That's kind of embarrassing to admit, but we all get blocks like this once in a while, don't we? Our mojo goes on hiatus? Takes a vacation and threatens to never return?? LOL well it feels like it sometimes!!! So, I did what any self-respecting scrapper would do....when all else fails, make a flower :)

First, I ripped all the seams from the bag, and removed the handles.

Next, I cut the bag into strips.

Then I chose my colors: Coffee Shop and Peach Delight Glimmer Mist.

After the strips had dried, I ran a needle and thread through one side of a canvas strip, pulled it tight, and secured the ends together.

Then I started pulling threads out, for a totally cool fringed effect....

....and finally, I chose my centers. I used some cork circles and a couple of buttons.

So I guess I figured something out with that cute little canvas tote after all. What will you do with yours?

My turn with the September kit!

I am a huge fan of Kraft paper...but was a little intimidated with this kit. I have four children, and tend to go bright and cheery. I was blown away with the versatility of this kit, however! I love all my layouts and will have extras at the end of the month, because once I started, I couldn't stop!

My first layout is from our recent trip to South Dakota and Wyoming. The colors in this kit are perfect for this picture! I didn't use ANY patterned paper on this layout!

I had sooooo much fun playing with the Crafty Chronicles in this kit! I cut them into circles, inked them, and then crumbled them all up! It fits with old time picture of Kiley from the Wisconsin Dells! It is a very simple layout, but the picture is so busy and small, that I didnt want to distract from that.

I think you will all LOVE this kit!

September kit

I have two layouts left to share with you and then I'm officially done with the September kit. I have plenty left over though, so will probably do at least a few cards with the remnants. I think we all had a lot of fun with this one, and as usual, I am eagerly anticipating what Gerri-anne has in store for us for October... but I digress. I hope that over the last month you've all become inspired to get your hands all inky with September's kit!

Fun with September kit

I really loved the Kraft papers and that you could use as is or color them yourself. When I saw the main picture on this layout I loved the technicolor drum. The colors and the patterns just looked so fun! So I tried to mimic them for my layout. I cut the papers in strips and then spread them out and sprayed them with Glimmer Mist. I could have easily used Smooch Spray except I only have 2 colors ( a problem I intend to remedy soon ;) ) . Once the papers had dry I adhered them down onto my layout. I loved how it turned out. Simple yet effective!

I'm baaaack!!

The summer months can get pretty busy for me. I always do a lot of canning and freezing fresh food from the garden. I have put up about 50 quarts of green beans, 150 ears of corn, a few batches of blackberry and raspberry preserves, 30 some odd jars of peach salsa, some sliced peaches for cobblers, and some tomato juice. I am done for a little while until I go and get apples next month. Then I will be up to my eyeballs in applesauce and apple butter. I am so thankful to Gerri-anne and Sonia for letting me take a little break from my design team responsibilities for a few months, and for now letting me return with open arms!

I was so excited to receive my September kit, and I couldn't wait to jump right in and start creating. Here are a couple of layouts that I created.

I created the roses on this page using a technique I found on Stacy Cohen's blog. I just adapted a bit to suit my needs. I used pink bubble gum and candlelight glimmer mists on this page.

Two Down, One to Go....

Bear with girls, today's post isn't going as planned. I had a great altered box using some new Graphic 45 papers (way cool--kind of Tim Holtz-y fantasy, industrial revolution spin on them). However, here's where the snag is. My middle boy (Ben) left for college on Thursday (hence the title of this post). Hubby and youngest boy decided they needed to do the room rearranging this weekend to surprise me while I was doing groceries. Well, Rome wasn't built in a day, and it take more than a day to change around rooms. Peter is getting some of Ben's furniture and I am getting Ben's room for my new scrap~space.

My beautiful altered box, my camera, and a bunch of other items that I desperately need this week are currently somewhere in one of the piles or boxes in Ben's room (insert heavy sigh....) I can't even show you the before photo of what the room looks like right now, because my camera and cords are somewhere in that black hole. I spent a number of hours trying to organize and reorganize...and Gary says it will be a month before I am moved in. I am hoping to have it workable by the end of the weekend. Bear with me gals...you will see my Graphic 45 project really soon!

For those of you who have children going off to college or who have gone off recently--I am so happy that my boys have sprouted wings and flown away. I hope that I have taught them well, and given them the tools they need to be successful. It is their time to shine! I love them dearly, and they are still so much a part of our lives. However, it is time to move on, and I am truly blessed and one proud Mom.

I was so excited to get the September Kit from KnK. First off I love Kraft papers! and the thoughts of black and kraft papers with splashes of colors was just so exciting. I used this image which I have to admit I did not recolor myself. My daughter Meagan's friend Liz redid it! I just loved the effects. They all wore Tie-Dye shirts for Sadie last year-the boys choosing 1 color and the girls choosing the other! Anyway I just love how this was re-colored and have been waiting for the "right" papers to highlight it. I thought these papers were it! I added splashes of color in the flowers made from the Crafty Chronicles that is included in the kit. I also glimmer misted the Petaloo Color Me Petals for the leaves. The colored letters are plain old white sticker letters that I colored with my Copics. Hope you have lots of fun scrapping this week. Spritz, Glimmer, and a Mid-Month Challenge

Have I ever been having fun with KnK's September kit! The uber-cool Krafty Collection from Paper Trunk just begs to be sprayed and colored with just about anything you can think of! With these layouts I used Smooch Spritz (which I am told will very soon be available in the KNK Shopping Mall) in Emerald and Glimmer Mist (already available) in Frosty Nights. Now, you can see that I may have gotten a bit carried away on this first one... see where my paper wrinkled? I didn't really take into consideration the weight of the paper, as I should have, before I started spraying. The Kraft papers aren't super-light, but they aren't as heavy as say, Bazzill might be. So if you've never really gotten acquainted with sprays and want to give it a try, keep this in mind before you start spritzing away on a favorite piece of paper! Especially if you are a perfectionist (which clearly I am not LOL) Here's a close-up of one of the fun flowers I made with the Crafty Chronicle...
For this next layout I really wanted to think of a different way to showcase my photos. I happened to be looking through one of my old albums... an 8x8 one that I did when I first began scrapbooking. While most of the pages were filled with a picture, a title, and a couple stickers, one caught my eye in which I had taken a photo of my daughter and created a sunflower around it. I remember being particularly proud of that page, too! While it lacked any kind of technique or finesse, the idea itself was exactly what I was looking for. So instead of layering a bunch of different patterned papers behind my pictures, I made a template for two different flower petals and began tracing and cutting.... and tracing and cutting.... and tracing... and cutting...
... ok, yes it took forever to get them all cut out! But once I did the flowers went together pretty quickly. The only thing I would have done differently is to put my photos on after the flowers were assembled. I ended up with quite a few fingerprints on my photos.

The quote and dictionary text were both cut from the Crafty Chronicle, and I used a few of the Paperie die-cuts for the date-tag and in the banner at the bottom of the page.

So, I know you are all waiting with baited breath to see if I will have a mid-month challenge, aren't you? LOL If you're not, that's ok, if you are, here it is:

Go back through your old albums and recreate something. Not like scraplifting a whole page, but just some element on a page that you really loved then, and make it new with your experience and different techniques you've learned since. Clear as mud? And naturally, I want to see the "THEN" and the "NOW". Post a link to your pics in a comment to this post! You have til the first of the month. Happy scrapping :)

Happy Monday!!!!
I just got back from a weekend with about 50 of my bestest scrappiest friends smack dab in the middle of Florida. A group of us gathered at an old historic hotel in Sebring FL (and YES it is haunted...and YES, lots of us have had close encounters of the creepiest kinds~~~FOR REAL!!!!!) for a weekend of scrapbooking fun. In addition to hanging out with our friends, being served yummy food by our hostesses Linda, Kathy, and Melanie, we were treated to classes by Lance Anderson from Rusty Pickle. He is a great guy, funny, talented, and puts together awesome classes. But, that is for another post.............(maybe).

I want to show you one of the projects that I put together using one of the great Kaiser Craft Beyond the Page album kits. This item contains wooden pieces that you alter and add photos to in order to create unique home decor items.

Altered frames are the perfect gift

Each year my girls work for hours on their gifts for their grandmother for her birthday... this year was no exception...they decided to create some frames for her to hold their end of the year school pictures. We bought some inexpensive white frames that were to be hung from ribbon and first painted them red (her favorite color). We then added a thin coat of varnish so it would be shiny... next came the dew drops for some texture.

They each then stamped the swirly image from the April Showers Flowers perfectly clear stamp set on either side of their picture. Here are the finished frames...I think they did a great job and they were a HUGE hit with Grammy!!

Summertime Photos

I believe that some of the most special memories of childhood are created in the summertime. This stands to reason; summer is full of vacations, family reunions, backyard BBQ's, and let's not forget Independence Day.... tons of events and fun experiences crammed into a few short months of the year! I know the day is coming when my children (my girls especially) decide that they don't want the camera constantly snapping around them, so I'm taking full advantage of their willingness now while I can. Our vacation this summer was full of colorful and memorable photo opportunities; little moments in their lives that I hope to help them remember by preserving the memories in pages of a scrapbook.

Two Peas in a Pod

The KNK August kit, full of bright colors and fun embellishments, is perfect for these summertime photos! For my double-page the warm golds and bright green worked perfectly for some pics of my girls in their Great-Aunt's gorgeous garden, drawing on the Marigolds and pea-pods in the photos. I added some red for a splash of contrasting color, and I couldn't resist adding some buttons and a couple of chipboard pea-pods from my stash to complete the page.

You and Little Lena

I am pretty sure that out of all the things we did and saw on our vacation, Katy will remember Little Lena the most. My Uncle brought this 10-week-old black Lab home the day after we got to their house and of course Katy fell in love with her right away! I had fun with this page, making some flowers from lace and, you can't see the huge tree in their backyard in the photos, so I decided to add one to the page.

And finally, as I usually do, I made a simple card from the last little bit of my favorite paper in the kit. I also had one pinwheel left so added it to the front with a sentiment sticker from the kit to make a cute friendship card.Have you scrapped any of your photos from this summer yet? more August Kit Love

I love the colors in this kit! and I have to admit both of my girls were fighting over the lantern included in the kit. So I put them to work and had them help me decide how to decorate it since they wanted it for their rooms. They decided on Color Me Flowers from Petaloo that are available in the add-on section. The opted for me to include bright colored buttons in the flower centers. Each flower is at a staggered height around the lantern. And then opted for some skinny ric-rac for the stems. Layouts from the August kit!

The August kits from Kit 'n Kaboodles are full of fun, summery papers and embellishments! My favorite item in the kit is the wonderful corrugated kraft alpha from Jillibean Soup. It can be left plain, or it can be inked or painted. In the first layout, I totally painted it, and then in the wall hanging, I lightly painted it. In future layouts, you will see it inked and left plain.

In the "you rock" layout, I wanted to highlight the gorgeous handmade pinwheels in the kit. I just used 2 different cardstocks, the alpha, the lace, and a pinwheel to create a clean and simple layout of my daughter Kiley.

I love creating things to decorate my house, and the papers are so fresh and summery, that I made a sign to hang on the black shutters of my kitchen. It is titled "celebrate summer" and uses the stickers from the add on kit as well as another pinwheel.

This is such an easy kit to create with, and I cannot wait to show you the rest of the things I made!

Life's a beach

At least that is what the saying says....and this Stampendous stamp set says that to me...

I stamped the image of the chair from the Fun in the Sun set three times in brown Stazon ink. I then used my Prismacolor pencils to color in the images. I then mounted the stamped image onto Coredinations cardstock and then a piece of Kaiser Crafts pattern paper...

Recycling is a girls best friend!

Are your girls looking for new, hip jewelry for back-to-school? Are they bored by the long, hot summer and looking for something fun to do? Well, here's a project that will get them glammed up and ready for school without breaking the budget!
Check around the house (or at a yard sale) or if you are desperate you can go to Walmart, Target and get some plain old dominoes. Decorate them with alcohol ink...you can use a felt applicator and blending solution if you want to experiment with the effects, or use a q-tip, or just apply and let dry. You will probably want to stay with lighter shades of colors.

Next you need to pick some stamps that will fit on the dominoes. The images can 'hang off' the dominoes, or they can just be background images. You are going to use a permanent ink (like staz-on) to stamp the images onto the dominoes. Be careful--the ink should be dry ( I let mine dry overnight just to be certain) and also even though the ink is dry, your image may slip when you stamp it onto the domino.

I used these amazing Alice in Wonderland stamps from TweetyJill. Creativity Boutique has some of the nature stamps and vintage stamps from TweetyJill (TJ) and some of their card kits and they are fantastic!!!!

Once you have your image stamped and are happy with the way it looks, take a metallic sharpie (they come in many awesome colors now...see)

and run it around the border of the domino so that it looks like you used metallic leafing. It will give it a beautiful finished look to it also.

For the finishing touch, you can turn it into a refridgerator magnet by putting a piece of magnetic tape on back or you can dazzle your friends by turning it into a beautiful necklace. Get a flatback bale from a place that sells jewelry findings

and glue it onto the back of the domino with some E6000. Now use some leather or other cording to make a chain and VOILA!!!!

I really missed getting to see all the new product up and close this year...but the good thing is the manufacturers have been great about getting the product "out there" so we all can see it too. August Kit & Jillibean Soup

Happy Friday! I am so excited to share my reveal today. This has to be one of the most versatile kits we've had yet! I have officially fallen in love with Jillibean Soup, no question about it. For this layout I used the canvas flowers and corrugated alphas, as well as two patterned papers and they all coordinate beautifully. Petaloo's "Color Me Crazy" alterable leaves were a perfect compliment to the flowers too! The texture in them really pops with a little ink. I inked them with Dew Drop "Bamboo Leaves" first, then add a little TH "Vintage Photo" Distress Ink over that. Then, to give them a little definition, edged them with Cinnamon Stickles. What I love about the "Color Me Crazy" products is that you can alter them in countless ways to coordinate with whatever. That's just cool.

I couldn't resist adding a Petaloo "Candies" flower to the center of a J.S. canvas one. It added just the right amount of contrast to otherwise green embellishments, with the exception of the white lace. That lace couldn't have been more perfect for this! Have you ever tied a bow with lace? Seriously... NOT as easy as you would think. Or maybe I am just bow-impaired LOL... but that simple little bow took me forever to make it look right. If any of you have any great bow-making tips, don't be afraid to share, please!

My second layout sort of took on a life of its own. It all started innocently enough, with three 4-inch widths of cardstock. After all the distressing and sewing and muted tones of my first layout, I really wanted to play up the vibrant colors in the kit. So, after lots of fussy-cutting and painting and improvising, this is what happened:

Do I love it?? YES!!! Talk about "out-of-the-box"..... but these adorable pics of my girls called for something cute and bright and fun, so that's what I did.

I've Been MIA with a good reason...

Hi everyone!
In case you did not know, I have been on the road for the past 3 weeks. My 18 year old son Ben and I drove to California for my oldest son's wedding, making a few amazing stops along the way. We had a blast in New Orleans, fantastic fun in Tuscon and then arrived in Lancaster CA for a visit with the lovebirds before the wedding festivities began in San Diego. The actual wedding took place on July 18th. Ben and I drove back and just got home late Friday night. We are totally wiped out from the whirlwind trip. I was hoping to have an amazing card to share with you today, but laundry, groceries, and unpacking have not given me any time to play (besides, I can hardly keep my eyes open!).
Soooo, I won't bore you with the gazillion photos we have from our trip, but I will share a few of my more favorites. Glad to be home, but Ben and I had so much fun on the road...it was a trip of a lifetime for us both!

Color me Crazy fun!

The Petaloo Color me Crazy flowers are by far my favorite flowers!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love that they come in all sizes and flower shapes. I love everything you can do with them. You can use them as is as a white flower, you can spritz then with Smooch spray or glimmer mist, you can stamp on them you can cut the 5 petal one and make them into butterflies, you can color them with copics...which is kinda what I did here.

I used a copic marker to color just the edges of the flower to match the paper. I then made the layered flower using this technique that Kathy linked up for us on the message board. The colors in the first card are a little off. (I really think my camera photo software is a little funky it doesn't always do what i want it to do :( ) The second picture shows the true colors.

Looking at the close up I now think I could/should have added a touch of Glossy Accents or glitter to the flower edges. So, what have you done with these flowers??? Don't miss these flowers currently in the August Kit add-on section in the KnK Mall. The papers and the lace are in the August KnK Kit.

August Kit and a Storage tip

Check out the August kit from KnK...isn't it lovely?!?! I absolutely cannot wait for the lace and the corrugated alphas and the pinwheels!!!! fun fun fun!

As for the Storage tip... I have a lot of ribbon. I was storing them all on the small floss holder cards, which works great for fibers and thin ribbons. but lately I am loving wider ribbons and frankly I had bought a lot of spools that just got thrown in the drawer and the ribbons I used most frequently were just in a large ziploc. I am not know for my neatness, but knew i wanted a neater way to store them where it didn't matter the size of the ribbon, and I wanted them stored by colors. So I did a quick google search which eventually led me to this older blog post from Gale. I loved the idea and set out to start immediately. Loved that the pins hold the ribbon. Becareful not to stick ppins all the wa through the boards though cuz it hurts. It took several night says of wrappiing ribbon while watching the kids play the Wii or watching TV, 2 1/2 foam boards and over 300 pins but I got them all done. I had them neatly stored in the plastic shoe boxes but they wouldnt fit in the drawer. So I finally just used the drawer as the holder. This is what they look like.

I cut each 20x30 board into 25 4x6 pieces. First I drew out the cut lines then I used a scissor blade to cut/score along the lines. I then foded the board along the lines and turned the boards over and cut/scored again one more fold and they broke apart along the lines (although i did have to trim a few up. Let me know how you store your ribbon or even if you try this :D

Fun in the sun

The sun is making a grand appearance again this week in the Pacific Northwest, so it got me in the mood to pull out my glittered cardstock and get busy.

I first stamped the Fun in the Sun stamp from set onto kraft cardstock with brown ink. I then trimmed the entire image using deckle edge scissors. I then decided to cut one of the Orange class a peel stickers in half and use it as my sun on my sentiment of the card...coloring in the word SUN using a white Sharpie marker. Then I decided to mount my stamped image onto glittered cardstock so it really sparkled...

I hope whereever you are that the sun is shining down on you and you are having a fantastic summer...get out and have some fun in the sun!!!

My KNK July kit reveal!

And isn't it about time! I have been on vacation.... and this gem of a kit graced my doorstep the day after I left on my nearly 3-week-long trip across the midwest. I couldn't wait to get into it when I got home Saturday evening! So that's just what I did.

The purples and blues were just right for my middle child, Katelynn, they are her favorite colors so naturally I have lots of photos of her wearing them. This made it pretty easy to have my pictures printed and waiting for me when I got back!
Fussy-cutting is sort of my go-to technique and I usually look for useable embellishments in the paper first when designing a page. In the midst of all the pretty Peacocks and flourishes in these BoBunny "Peacock Lane" papers were these dainty little purple blooms with blue centers and gray leaves, and dressing them up was easy. I think they add a delicate touch, a nice counter-balance to the bold leaves on the tree in this layout.

A simple card is easy to put together from scraps....

.... and I always love to use the coordinating flowers that BoBunny makes for each line of paper. For this layout I used a couple iCandy brads for the centers of two layered flowers, and a Petaloo "Candies" flower for the center of the third. If you haven't seen these particular flowers from Petaloo they are soooo pretty!! The only thing that could make me love them more is if they came in more than one size :)

It's amazing what you can use from plane reservation slips to receipts, etc...to make the background pages for your journal. Now the fun starts with stamping, putting the photos in and journaling. The July kit and add-on are chock-ful of BoBunny Peacock Lane. This line has beautiful colors that work well for many types of layouts. First I am showing off my budding cook, who is making homemade chicken strips. It was something that she saw on the Food Network. I focused on the blues and purples of this line.

My next layout adds the greens of the line. I have been dying to use this ribbon that I found while shopping with my friend Jules, and as soon as I saw the color combination of this kit, I couldnt WAIT to use it!

Weather forecast is heating up all over the country and it's almost time to hit the beach... I decided to create a simple card this week...allowing this great stamp to be the star of the show...

I stamped the starfish and seashell image from the Fun in the Sun stamp set onto cardstock, colored the image in with Prismacolor pencils, and then tore the image out of the cardstock to create the distressed look... I then inked my card base...added this great pattern paper I had in my scrap pile and the sentiment that I had in my stash... Lots of distressing and ink later...here we are:

I made this cute little card using Stampendous' Freedom Squares stamps! I added some class a peel star stickers for a little extra glittery shine! and ribbon! my newest addiction! working on a new storage system for my multiplying supply! wish me luck.. have I mentioned i am not the most organized person in the world?? really! Gesso Etching Technique

I've been playing around with this technique this week that I learned about from Claudine Helmut. It's a fun way to make your own background page for a layout or project.
What you do is take a canvas or piece of fabric which is was I used, and first layer it with some paint, all over the surface.Let it dry. Then you take gesso, which is a primer for all types of surfaces, and layer that on over the paint. Let some of the paint come through the surface. You can add several colors if you want, I just used yellow paint for mine.
I put it on rather thick and if you are going to use it for a background for a photo or something, you might want to put it on thinner. Once the gesso is on, I took a pencil and just drew my figures onto it. You can do whatever you like to make the background you want. Her example was to do a type of faux cursive handwriting which was quite cool looking. Let it dry thoroughly. Now you can use the page as is or if you hadn't let the gesso dry, you could use a transfer method on it which I'll explain next time!

Pack Your Bags!

I told you I got some yummy stuff in the post on my return from Ranger U now did n't I??? One of the things was a fab travel stamp collection by Stampendous. Another thing was one of the delightful little suitcases from Zutter. Now I am not much of a scrapper ... but I do like collecting tickets from my travels and making mini books ... so I took a piece of white card ... scored it ... cut the corners off to form a concertina tag album and started Distress inking and stamping without delay. I added a few Idea-ology adage tickets and some left over coins and Ta Da ... a quick and simple keepsake!

And if you have n't been on your travels recently ... well how about recording some of your wishes or giving a book of wishes away as a gift for that friend that has everything!

I am a simple scrapper. For a long, long time, I tried to be something else. I would look in the magazines and online, and see GORGEOUS layouts with tons of embellishments and patterned paper. I would stare at them in amazement and awe. I would then attempt to do the same kind of layout. Mine always looked silly and cluttered. Recently, I have looked deep inside of ME, and one thing I realized is this...it is OK to be different. It is OK to be yourself. When I received the July kit from Kit 'n Kaboodles, I knew immediately that I wanted to use these pictures of my daughter Kiley on her tenth birthday. These pictures are so HER. This layout is so HER. Simple, classic, and clean. I did try to add a few more things, but kept taking them away, as I really wanted the focus on the pictures. The BoBunny is perfect for accenting and not overpowering. I also did a quick card...everything came together so quickly and easily with this kit.

I cannot WAIT to design more things with it!

Pull out the sun screen!!!

Okay...we have had a few days of sun here in Washington state...that is all I need to start pulling out all the backyard summer fun activity items...sprinker...kids table with umbrella...then there are all the wonderful bright colored beach towels that I have kept tucked away until now...one of them was the inspiration for this card...

For my card, I stamped this great saying from the Fun in the Sun stamp set and colored in the image with Prismacolor pencils. I then mounted the image onto cardstock and then cut some fun triangle shapes from this polkadot paper to create a sun-like image... I inked all around my card edges and here it is:

Quick Quotes

We all remember the gorgeous papers from Quick Quotes in the June kit, right? I was fortunate enough to get my hands on another one of their new lines, "Tessa's Fairytale", and I just love it! Beautiful color combinations and striking patterns made it hard to choose which of the papers to use for this layout, and since the photos themselves have hardly any color, I figured out a way to use all of the papers! Some cute die-cuts from the same line made the title super easy, with some help from Pink Paislee weathered wood chipboard alphas.
In making the starburst pattern for the layout, I ended up with a lot of little scraps, so I made a card inspired by the same pattern with the leftovers.I added a couple more die-cuts and ended up with a cute little "hugs 'n kisses" card which I'll probably give to my honey today :)

A Wedding Card

Here is a cute wedding card that I created using odds and ends from February's kit-n-kaboodles scrapbook kit. I just love the papers, and the wonderful cling stamp from stampendous! I created a frame with the negative space left after I used one of my nesties, and embossed the stamp with periwinkle blue embossing powder. I thought that it was a little different in the color scheme for a wedding, but goes along with the poem...something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue!

Fun in the sun

So we are experiencing the first signs of summer here in the Pacific Northwest...today it may even reach 75 outside...really...the end of June...I know...sad, but true. So we do our best to get out when the sun is out and just enjoy what we have to work with!

For this card I decided to keep the front simple and just stamp the chair and umbrella from the Fun in the Sun set...coloring them in as if just sitting on the side of the water...and used some Class A Peel summer messages stickers for the sentiment inside the card. I used some Coredinations cardstock and distressed he edges of the blue color to create a kind of frame around my stamped image... the card front is covered with a piece of Kaiser Crafts pattern paper.

So...I can just feel the breeze coming off the water...now if only it were a warm breeze...

Summer Sun & A Mid-Month Challenge

It's finally summer! Is it just me, or is it easier to create a summer-themed project when the sun is shining and it's warm outside? (This may not be relevant for all of you, but us Pacific North-Westerners are finally seeing some temps above 60 degrees LOL.) I used up what was left of my KNK June kit to create this layout, and finally felt inspired to use some of those popscicles that came with it....I was due for a good good glitter mess, so I cut my popscicle sticks into various lengths, put a layer of Glossy Accents on them, then dumped Doodlebug Sugar (Bumblebee) over that. I also mixed a little chunky orange loose glitter for a more textured look. The resulting sun-accent for my page worked really well with some photos of one of our trips to the coast. This would also be a great way to simulate sand on a project.

Finally, with a few leftovers, I made this Encouragement card. Inside reads "You'll feel better!" with plenty of white space for a hand-written sentiment.

May Your Day be Filled with Sunshine

Summer is officially here! Have you gotten out to the beach or the pool yet? This adorable set by Stampendous will get you into the summertime swing if you aren't already. It is called Sunshine Shells. You can make it go from this

to this

in just a few easy steps. Here's how.

1.Stamp image onto vanilla/creme cardstock and color in
2.I used golden ochre liquid applique to make the coral look realistically fuzzy,
snickerdoodle smoochie ink on the nautilus shell, and sunflower ultrafine glitter
on the starfish, accents on the sailboat were done with golden yellow liquid pearls
3. Base of the card is 6x12 piece of tranquil blue bazill cardstock
4.I tore some burnt sugar core-dinations paper (6" wide) and made layers for the sand.
5.I cut some more bazill with a curvy cutter to make the ocean water
6. To make the effect of whitewash at the waters' edge and also for whitecaps in the ocean, I used a 'splash' (lol) of white liquid applique.

Even though it is a beautiful sunny day, there are a few clouds in the sky. They are made with scallop oval punches (same shade as the base card) that have been spritzed with marshmallow glimmermist(oooh---aaahhhh). The cute sun is a punch that I havehad for ages in my stash.

Flash forward to the inside of the card....I did not want to ruin my seascape with a sentiment so I put it on the inside. I also used an adorable Martha Stewart beach punch (soon to be available at Creativity Boutique---yee~ha gals~~~~ the punches are coming!!!!!)

I loved these journaling blocks in the June kit! I couldnt resist making a card out of this one! and I truly believe that happiness is contagious so share some today ;)

This one is of my little guy when he graduated pre-school. Preschool was a very hard adjustment for my energetic little boy. Good teachers but hard to try to convince my little guy to settle down during classtime! Lets just say he wasnt the only one celebrating his graduation ;).

Apple For the Teacher

School is out for the year, I know, but did everyone thank their teacher? I made these cute apple-shaped cards for the Pre-K/Kindergarten teacher and the 1st/2nd Grade teacher at my daughter's Christian school. I made the template for the apple first, then traced it onto folded cardstock (leaving a part of the fold intact, of course!), then added the leaf and stem. I did a little shading with inks before I adhered the pieces together, and some buttons make a nice and simple accent. Font is Cricut's "Makin' the Grade", one of my favorites. I printed my chosen text onto yellow cardstock then cut it into a smaller apple shape for the inside, leaving plenty of room for a hand-written note as well. A gift card is affixed with repositionable adhesive on the opposite side.

Family Ties

This summer is going to be a special one for me. My oldest son, Dave, is getting married in July. My mom and I recently went to San Diego to surprise him and his fiancee by showing up at her bridal shower. It was the first time I can remember that he was speechless!! I made him even more speechless by handing over my camera to a complete stranger to take photos. His nickname for me is mommarazzi, and he pretends to be embarrassed by all the photos that I take.

Today I am showing you an altered canvas that I made for my mom to commemorate our trip to San Diego together. I used Amy's wonderful KNK kit from March 2010. There is a little bit of stamping ( I used TH distress ink in spun sugar on those wonderful Petaloo Color Me Crazy flowers) but it is so pale it hardly shows in the photo.

Being sentimental, I used my new TH butterfly die to reflect the theme of my boys' metamorphosis into a new stage of his life (sappy, but totally me).

I know that you usually expect me to do a card, but I have been away and was moved to make this for my mom. Sometimes it is good to share with friends :)

All scrappers have tons of scraps around that you always think you're going to use, right? I know I do! I recently started making these scrappy journals using fabric scraps on the outside and paper scraps on the inside.

The insides have signatures of pages, all made with scraps that will be used as the background for my photos and journaling...

There are several sites out there showing you how to make journals if you're interested. Google it and you'll be amazed at what you see.
So don't throw those scraps away- they're very valuable for what could be your next project!!

A slightly different type of post this week from me! I have been busy counting sleeps until I go to Ranger U in SEVEN more sleeps and each day from 10 more sleeps I have been making a tag to mark the passing of another day! So I thought I would share all 10 with you over the next three Fridays. The tags are all manilla shipping tags ... the ones that Lord Tim of Holtz himself uses and they are all coloured using Ranger Distress Inks ... in case you have n't noticed these just happen to be my all time favourite inks ever ever ever!

June Kit and an old favorite

I am so in love with these papers by Quick Quotes. The colors are stunning; rich, warm summer shades that go with just about anything. They really compliment this photo of my girls standing in the sea, contemplating it. Do you remember your first look at the ocean? I don't know about you, but it never fails to take my breath away, no matter how many times I've seen it. I can only imagine what was going through their minds as they stared out into the vast blue. I don't often use only one photo on a layout, but this one really speaks to me and that's all it needs to stand alone. Here's a little detail, I used Stickles in Cinnamon for my faux stitching and the word "thoughts" is a Stampendous sticker from the Summer Words sticker sheet in the June kit. It really helped pull my title together which ended up perfect for the feel of this layout!

I absolutely could NOT narrow down this set of pics no matter how long I stared at them, so I ended up with a double layout. I am so glad I did it! It gave me plenty of room for the flower-type embellishments, which are meant to kind of mimic the bubbles (which are hard to see here) in the photos. This type of embellishment is not a new idea but having the color-core cardstock makes them so fun to make!

Here's a bit of a close-up.... if you've never made these before they are easy to do, you just have to be really mean to your cardstock! Once you've cut out various sized imperfect circles, just crumple, sand, and distress them, in that order. Add a generous amount of Stickles to the edges if you want, I used "Diamond", one of my personal favorites. You could use Glue Dots to assemble them but I used a simple button-stitch since the "buttons" were cut from another coordinating piece of patterned paper in the kit.

Hi everyone! Summertime is officially here, and we would all love to fit into an itsy-bitsy-teeny-weeny bikini again. Here is a bikini that we can all enjoy and show off! I have used a flesh colored cardstock for the card base (you can use any skin tone you like), papers and brads from Kaisercraft, and ribbon from my stash! My teenaged boys giggled when I showed them the card, and hubby just smiled!

Right now, I am off in San Diego where my mom and I are surprising my soon-to-be daughter-in-law at her wedding shower. Mom and I are staying with Jenna's parents and I am doing some "it's almost wedding day" planning with Anne while mom gets to know Anne and Harvey.

I just love the colors in the KNK June kit! so many options and so pretty. I made this layout. To cut the circles I used to different sized dinner plates. Love when I can use "tools" I have on hand! I then cut around the larger circle with deco scissors! Love my big scallopped deco scissors. I can't wait to share the rest of my creations with this kit!

Summer Explosion!

It had been ages since I had made an exploding box when I had the urge to make another one! The instructions, stamps and card stash for this one are all included as part of the Summer Sizzle kit! I left a few blank pages so they can be personalized with messages for the recipient when I decide what I am going to do with it!

Happy Thursday!

Today I am sharing two more projects from the June kit at Kit 'n Kaboodles. The first one is two of my daughters as they got their first glimpse of the Grand Canyon. I felt that the quote was so appropriate. I used Smooch spray on the flower cut-out and the butterflies.

Although I am so NOT a cardmaker, the quotes 12x12 sheet makes card making much easier. I made this for a dear friend of mine.

It's time to get some spring cleaning done...

Okay...have no fear...I'm not going to ask you to do windows...I'm going to tell you what I do to keep my stamping gear clean and ready to go.

First of all, if I pick up some new stamps and they are wood mounted...I always varnish the wood around the rubber image and along the sides...this allows me to easily clean off any ink that may get on the wood and my stamps look brand new; even after heavy use!

When I get a new image...I stamp it on white paper and put it in a binder that I have. This is my stamp inventory guide...very helpful when you are looking for a certain something to put on a card or layout; also helps to stop me from buying the same stamp more than once...(and yes, we've all done it)

To keep my acrylic blocks looking great and not covered in Stazon ink, I have found that alcohol ink blending solution is the best way to clean your blocks. It goes on easy and makes them sparkly like new.

If my acrylic stamps start to get a bit ugly...I will give them a little soak in a mild temperature bath that has just a tiny bit of dish soap in it...let them air dry and they are good as new...even renews the stickiness of them too.

I hope you don't mind this type of spring cleaning...and will share any tips you may have with our blog readers!!!

Sometimes all it takes is one product to get that scrappy-ball rolling (so to speak). This orange paper is the "B" side to one of the BoBunny "Popscicle" papers, and to be honest, not my favorite of the lot. At least, not until I received these super-cool chipboard circles! The circle-theme fell together very nicely after I paired the two products together, and even inspired me to really go outside my square-shaped photo box and trim my photos into something other than squares (something I almost never do!). I ended up loving the paper, and really liking the end-result of this fun layout. I just love these little coordinating flowers and buttons, don't you? Often it's the little details, such as tied buttons, or a little hand-stitching, or even a little accenting with glitter-glue, that can take your layout beyond the ordinary. With this layout, I've officially used up nearly every scrap of "Popscicle" I own! It's such a versatile and eye-catching line of products. You can find all these beautiful BoBunny products HERE. :)

My goodness...can you believe that Father's Day is just around the corner again? Time is just flying by so quickly! My boys simply adore Changito the Monkey and all the stamps Stampendous has devoted to him. Here is a card I made with Changito hanging out (lol)with one of his little ones.

I have heard from lots of people that are concerned about putting bling on masculine cards and layouts. These rhinestones are from Basic Grey and are perfectly masculine. Around my house, they are known as boy bling!
Don't let Father's Day sneak up on you~~get busy and make those special men in your life their cards before you forget!

Two of my favourite things!

I thought it would be nice to share a few of my favourite things with you guys this week. You have probably guessed by now that one of them is the range of Distress inks from Ranger. I LOVE them and if I could start my crafting life over ... well they would be the first pads I bought ...and trust me ... I bought plenty that I never use! Why are they my favourite??? Well you can create beautiful backgrounds with a few inks and some white card ... oh yeah and a fabulous stamp. To make the above background I coloured the white card with Fired Brick and Spiced Marmalade distress ink then I stamped over the top in Fired Brick with the Stampendous Agapanthus stamp.

My second favourite thing is Stampendous embossing powder ... especially the Gold Detail. If you grab some card and pat it with the Gold Acrylic Dabber and then shake Gold embossing powder over the top ... once heated you are left with a really lovely textured vintage look ... trust me! No one will believe it started life as a piece of white card.
So ... don't leave me in suspense ... What are your favourite things?

Cool weather and spring flowers

The weather has been very cool for Spring here in the Pacific Northwest, so I've been turning to these wonderful stamps from Stampendous for a touch of warmer spring-time fun. This Stampendous April Showers Flowers Perfectly Clear Stamp set can really get you ready for warmer Spring weather.

Sizzlin' Summer Friendship

Summer is coming, and here in Florida so many people are wearing cute little sundresses. I thought that would be a great embellishment for a friendship card. Of course I will show you how to make them yourself! Depending on the size of your scallopped circle, you could use this to embellish a layout, card, or almost anything you desire. Get out your scallopped circles and start sizzling!

First, I decided to use some more of our friend Nikki Sivils Willow Bee papers. I adore sunflowers, and thought that pattern would make a cute little dress. I used my die cut machine to make 3 scallopped circles. If you don't have a machine that does this, you can purchase pre-cut scallopped circles in chipboard or maybe even patterned paper. Or...you can even use one of those doilies that are showing up everywhere!

I made 1 circle out of patterned paper (that will be for the dress itself) and 2 out of complementing cardstock for the ruffles.
Next, I took the patterned paper and transformed it into a sundress. To do this, count off 4 scallops for the neckline and 10 scallops for the hem.

HINT~~HINT:
Make a template using cardstock first, and save that for future reference. It isn't hard, but you know how finicky we are about having things just so!

To pump up the cuteness factor, trim the cardstock scallopped circles to make ruffles for the hem of the dress. You can use as many layers as you like.

I added a sash at the waist before adhering it to my friendship card. I just love this sentiment. It exemplifies true friendship!

a little Pink Paislee

I created this layout using the Pink Paislee 365 Degrees collection available at KNK. I used Glimmer Mist to change the color of the Color Me Flowers from Petaloo. Have I mentioned how much I love these!!??!! Th green gingham "ribbon" at the top of the page is actually the background from the ribbon packaging. The card below is also made from the same Pink Paislee line. The Color Me flower here was covered with Smooch Spritz. I love that the smooch provided a very rich true color!

Well people ... here in the UK it is very very warm ... finally! Apparently we have good weather to come for at least a week ... before it turns cold again! I am a sketch junkie...making and using them all the time as a starting point for projects. This card was based on a sketch that the Stampendous folks had on their blog a few weeks ago... my card features the Blessed Spring stamp set that you can find in the Creativity Boutique store.

I stamped the sentiment onto cardstock that I had cut into this fun shape...the flowers were stamped onto a piece of transparency and colored with Sharpie Mark It markers.

Today I thought that I would post a fun technique for you to make your own unique background papers. All you need is glossy cardstock, ink and daubers, and rubber cement (yes, you read that correctly...rubber cement). This works great for any type of papercrafting (scrapbooking, cardmaking, altered arts etc). Pick the color scheme or patterned paper for your project. I am loving the new colors of Tim Holtz distress inks, and choose Wild Honey for this project ( it coordinates with Nikki Sivils Willow-Bee line perfectly too).

Step #1--drizzle some rubber cement in a random pattern on top of your glossy cardstock. I am using a 4x6 sheet of photo paper here.

Let the rubber cement dry before proceeding to the next step (tick~tock)

Step #2--use your felt pad or dauber to apply ink to the entire sheet of glossy cardstock...go right over the rubber cement!

This is how it looks now :)

Step #3--use an adhesive remover to pull up the rubber cement. You can try using your fingers to rub it off, but if you rub too much you will get a blister (ask me how I know this, I dare ya!)

GUESS WHAT~~??? Your sheet of cardstock is now ready to be used!!!! You can use this for a photo mat on a layout, or a mat for an image for a card.

Here is a card that I made using an adorable stamp from Penny Black called CHEERS! (isn't she just moooo--velous?), patterned paper from Nikki Sivils Willow Bee collection, and a muddy brown cardstock. I was trying to be witty so I wrote my own sentiment.
My middle son graduated from High School on Friday, and he will be using cards like this a thank you notes!!!

a few wildflowers for you

I made these cards using the Wildflower Sprigs Stamp set. I love that the set includes several little sayings for my cards and I just love the silhouette of the wildflowers! I was trying to create a sunset-y looking card here so I used chalk in the background. And the ribbon is leftover from a gift packaging I received. (too pretty to throw away)

For this Card I wanted to create a simple card with black on turquoise. The butterfly is a Class A Peel . Be sure to check out these stamps. Just think of the possibilities.

Scrapbook Storage 101 - Buttons

Buttons. I love them. And as a scrapbooker, it is highly likely that you do too. It's also likely that you have at least a small collection of them. I wouldn't say that I have a huge amount of buttons, but I do have my fair share. Organizing your buttons depends on your personal taste and your scrap space.

If space is limited, and you don't have a ton of buttons, you could go with my personal choice for button storage. I just throw them all in an old silver dish that a friend bought for me in Mexico. I love this piece, and I leave it sitting out beside my sewing machine. I love to just dip my hand into it and dig for that perfect button. I know it isn't necessarily “organized”, but it works for me.

Maybe you have plenty of space, and if you have a lot of buttons, these plastic containers with compartments are very functional. If you would like something more compact, small metal tins work perfect and can be easily stacked to save space.

I have to say that this is one of my all time favorite Stampendous stamps...I can't believe that anyone would not enjoy getting a greeting in the mail featuring this cute little guy...

For my card, I used Le Plume markers to watercolor my image.... you scribble the ink from the marker onto a slick surface (such as a butter lid) and then lift the color with a wet paintbrush...this gives you a great amount of control over the color and allows you to create a more translucent look.

I hope you'll consider picking up a small Stampendous image and creating some warm greetings for a friend.

Ling Ling the Panda

Ok, you know that I am totally loving the new oriental themed stamps from Stampendous. Well, I may have found my new favorite character. Let me introduce you to Ling Ling the panda. She (my boys decided the gender) is an adorable little panda that is hanging out in the bamboo jungle.

This stamp comes along with the icon for courage. My future daughter-in-law has a birthday this week, and I made this into a card for her. The papers are from the June 2009 KNK kit and are from 7 Gypsies. I stamped her then added some glitter to the bamboo leaves to give her a bit of bling! She looks fabulous in real life.

Happy Mom's day to all you moms out there! Hope you get spoiled rotten!!!!! What do you do to celebrate Mom's Day? We typically use the day to pick out and plant our annuals then go to my inlaws for supper. Not sure anything will get planted tomorrow as we are under a frost warning! Bizarre weather!

Difficult Cards

We all have to make difficult cards from time to time ... nothing says they have to be dull and dreary ... sometimes you just want to sit and create something that will give comfort to another person. A card that will catch their eye on the windowsill when they are feeling sad ... a simple reminder that you care and they are not alone.
I have made this card with plain white card stock, I then blended Scattered Straw, Spiced Marmalade and Fired Brick to colour. I used the Stampendous Agapanthus set stamped in Coffee Archival ink and then stamped the sentiment in Jet Black Archival to make it pop slightly. I matted the card onto simple Brown card stock and added a Jenni Bowlin butterfly. The butterfly was tinted slightly using Spiced Marmalade Distress ink.

This is Teacher appreciation week and in my house that means cranking out the crafts all week long for our favorite educators!!!

Friday is bring in a note to your teacher...so we created cards using this wonderful Stampendous April Showers Flowers Perfectly Clear Stamp set.

The girls are so excited to write special notes inside; which I made them wait until I snapped a photo of each. I hope the teachers like the cards this year...I know I am so very thankful for all their hard work and dedication to the students in their classrooms.

I soooo cannot get ENOUGH of this kit. Here is another layout that I created with the basic kit. My only non-basic kit additions are the cork buttons from the add-on kit and the letters...and ONLY because I have done so many layouts that I ran out of the ones that I needed (and the 3 pearls)!

My second layout for today included items from the add-on kit and items that are available in the shopping mall. Again, there are the cork buttons from the add-on kit. Items for purchase from the mall are the chipboard letters/numbers, the flip notes, the Jenni Bowlin buttons, the Pink Paislee Bella brads, and the Borderlines Clear Stickers. I totally recommend buying every last one of these items. Actually...at least 2 of the chipboard letters/numbers...you will fall in LOVE with them!

I hope that you enjoy these items as much as i did!

Going Bald

I created this layout using KnK May Kit and Amy's Sketch Challenge. It has been a while since I used a sketch. I forgot how much fun they can be! I enjoyed doing this page because it documented a proud moment. I was a little shocked to say the least when my hubby came home one night and said guess what I am doing......I am going to get my head shaved!!!!!?????? WHAT???????????!!!!???? Then he told me what the cause was for...St. Baldrick's...People pledge money for him to get his head shaved and that money goes to help fight kids cancer! OK I guess I can handle him being bald for a short time ;) . He was quite brave when he got it shaved...especially when they handed the clippers to his youngest daughter.
