Ink Question

My friend emailed me this question and I thought this was a great place to get an answer. Here it is:

what kind of ink do I stamp with if I
1. don't want it to run if I apply color to the image?
2. don't want to heat set it?
I want to stamp an image on white cardstock with black ink. Then I want to color it in with inks.

So what do you say Stampers?

Simple and Effective!

Hi everyone ... it's me again ... back for my second post! This week I have another Fall card idea for you ... again using the Stampendous Damask Fall clear stamps ... did I mention that I totally love them!

This week my card is made using a simple but effective technique called "The Bandana Technique" ... I learned this one a while back through a challenge site ... I am sure there are 101 different ways of doing it ... but this is the one that always works for me!

1. Take a white piece of card and stamp a random pattern in black archival ink ... fill your card up as much as possible leaving as little space as you can without overlapping your images ... clear stamps are perfect for this technique.
2. Dry your ink with a heat gun if necessary and then blend several complimentary colors of distress inks over your images. Keep building the color until you are happy with it.
3. Blitz that with your heat gun and then draw around your stamped images with a white pen ... it is as easy as that ... you can use lines, dots or squiggles ... whatever you like ... the effect is great and I told you it was quick and simple.

I used a 1 inch punch to create my design and then mounted the pieces on to Coredinations card stock to make the design pop!

That just leaves me to wish you a good weekend ... if you try this out ... please come back ...  leave a comment on this post and link us so we can all admire your work!

Fall leaves are in the air

Things are starting to really change colors here in the Pacific Northwest. We don't get quit the brilliant colors that the East Coast gets, but they are very pretty. I thought I would share with you one of my favorite ways to get great color combinations on stamped images...

You'll need a few colors...for my card I chose four colors of Memento ink...yellow, orange, red, and green. You simply smear the colors in sections over the stamp; allowing the colors to blend together...you then use your finger to smudge the colors to blend them for a more natural look... I then took a spritzer and gently sprayed my image; this will allow the colors to blend even more.

then stamp your image onto your cardstock:

you can see how the colors are blending all over the image; no harsh lines...

I then decided I needed a sentiment, but did not want to use the entire phrase on this great stamp from Stampendeous that says "Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower".. I thought that I could just use the word Autumn from the stamp for my card. There are a lot of ways that you can isolate part of a stamp for use...I like to use removeable tape when I do this...I simply put the tape on the part of the stamp I don't want ink to get onto...then ink my stamp...remove the tape and stamp away!

here is my final card...I mounted my stamped image onto various colors of coordinating Coredinations cardstock and then mounted them onto a piece of brown that I embossed with my Cuttlebug.

I hope you have enjoyed this technique...

Fall Stair-Step Card

How about a fun fold for today's cardmaking technique? These are called stair-step cards, and it it a variation on an accordian fold.

Begin with a piece of cardstock that measures 10.5"x 5.0". If you want to stamp images on the cardstock, now is the time to do so. It is perfectly fine to just add designer paper and embellishments later on.

Score your cardstock at 1.25", 2.5", 4.25" ,6" and at 8.25"

Fold with hills and valleys (accordion style) making sure that the smallest fold
(1.25" ) is folded down as this will be the front of your card. Please refer to the photos to help you.

Now comes the best part---decorate your card with coordinating patterned papers, complementing stamps and embellishments. Go to town, have a blast and be creative!
Don't forget to share your cards in the KNK gallery!

I'm Nuts about You

This month I got to play with the Birch Buddies set from Stampendous! To create this card I used papers from KNK's November kit. I added some flock to the squirrels. My daughter who has an obsession with squirrels has already claimed this card :D
